Can you elaborate on tech censorship being bad for children? I'd be comfortable with restricting access to certain sites on my home network if I had kids.

Censorship, especially driven by large institutions effectively disarms people's cognitive abilities over time. Your ability to learn to think requires you to be exposed to a large range of possible ideas, some novel, others outright silly.

The problem is that ultimately "harmful content" is much narrower than social engineers would like to admit. A great deal of legitimately harmful content is evidence of or glorification of crime that itself is very often already criminal.

Dragnet surveillance and top-down censorship do little to address these crimes, and the costs are very high.
