Hi Gabriel, good post, thank you! 🙏 In the secure phone marketplace, are you familiar with e/os? Found here:

I am, I actually flashed e/os on my device to try it out. I believe they use the same method of easy installation with a computer, at least I was able to do it without using the command line.

I see e/os in the same line as Murena (https://murena.com/) where they're not aiming for the same standard that grapheneOS is, but if you're looking for a "middle of the road" option I'd say it's good if you're just trying to distance yourself from Google/Apple a bit.

But I'll go as far as to say that if one wants a very high standard of privacy/security there really aren't any truly great options in the Smartphone, Messenger, Browser, etc spaces without some trade-offs.

I very much see this as a sign we need a concerted long-term campaign to really push for radical technological change for the better, and I hope to be a part of that.

Thank you for your in-depth reply Gabriel. Much appreciated. Is it possible to flash Graphene OS to iphone?

No, GrapheneOS is only for Google Pixel devices (6 through 9 at the moment)

But for all the bad things one could say about iOS...

I would go as far as to say you're likely less of a target than somebody using a phone from Unplugged by the looks of it! 😅

I use GraphenOS on a Pixel 3a phone and installation was pretty straightforward. But then, I've been using Linux as my primary OS since 1995, so that shows my bias.

I readily admit to being one of the numerous consumers without the knowledge or experience to navigate this labyrinth. I'm 74, and I just want a phone that's a tool I use, not a conduit for big tech to spy, manipulate, or use me without my being aware.

I read an article on how to de-google my Samsung S20, then get a update for the android system and find everything I've done has been undone. I don't have the time or the inclination to fight that battle. Ii will pay for a product that has achieved that goal once it's made available. Problem is the purveyors of confusion will try and hide that development.
