I’ll add that the Internet Archive/archive.org has deleted some of my files in the past without much explanation - usually FOI packages that contain emails. I’ve heard plenty of rumours of old webpage snapshots being wiped as well. This is to say, it would be worth uploading documents to another such platform as well! Then, of course, we’re getting into “backups of backups” ad infinitum 😝
Great point! The point of backups shouldn't to be to rely on a single external provider, but it's nice to have options. Torrents/IPFs are worth pointing out but I have an operation coming up where I want to talk about those!
This is great information. I will be filing it in my bookmarks to refer to it as I go. First step is the massive organizational work that needs to go into it. 😬
I like using Syncthing, it's open source and cross-platform.
I also have a DAS 3-way mirror which is usually offline. I can back up to it and then hot-swap drives for offsite storage. Multiple extra layers of redundancy since each disk has a full copy of the encrypted data.

Having a system is one thing, using it 100% of the time is another 😸 New Year’s resolution!

Thanks for the reminder. Definitely something I have to get better in.

Great suggestions!
I'm sure the peace of mind is great.
I'm hoping to move to that kind of setup soon!
This post is partially a reminder for one of many new years resolutions.
