There’s too much to keep up with. Too much to learn to do just to stay up to date with the latest intrusions on liberty. I would like to stop using gmail, but I have tons of e-mails with useful information and personal communications that I do access. I’m afraid of losing it all.

My brain is going in so many directions, I can hardly keep up with myself. I don’t see how I could learn Linux. I have extremely limited finances and don’t have the knowledge or time to deep-dive into learning computer stuff besides all the other things I am doing and need to do.

It is overwhelming.

I basically feel like Hrvoje said about his platform situation - I feel like giving up. It’s too hard to keep ahead of them.

Anyway, it was an interesting conversation.

I know exactly what you mean. I feel a similar level of overwhelm when it comes to other domains (ie health & biology) so I can totally understand the pressure and frustration. It's genuinely a tough call to know what to prioritize and focus on, nobody can really give anyone else good advice on that. If I was to pick a single thing worth your time I would just say make sure you're using an ad-blocker, doing that alone puts you far ahead many others.

I'm glad you at least found it interesting and I hope things align for you in a way that makes many problems easier. I really appreciate the feedback and wish you the best moving forward.

I can sympathize with what you said. I came across (on another Stack) the Mark 37 ghost phone. They also have a basic computer with Linux already installed. The phone was between $400-$500 and the computer was the same. I was wondering if Gabriel knew anything about them as it’s getting harder to know who to trust 🫤 and it seemed like an answer to me just being someone who isn’t especially tech savvy.

It appears as though Mark37 sells a pixel 5a flashed with grapheneOS for convenience.

The biggest problem with getting a 5a today is that the manufacturer security updates go away in August of this year! (https://endoflife.date/pixel) In addition to this you could buy a newer pixel (such as the 6a) which has three years of updates left for basically the same price and flash it with the web installer (https://grapheneos.org/install/web) I know it looks daunting but it's very easy to use! (Here's a walkthrough https://youtu.be/ywo-NT8K6B4)

Edit: it looks like you can purchase newer pixel devices from the store with a drop-down, this ultimately means that it comes down to if you trust this supplier to procure and flash devices for you. In my opinion somebody flashing the device for you isn't doing that much of a value-add and you'd be better off trying to get someone slightly tech-savvy to try it with a brand new device.

This is of course ignoring the concern that some people may have about using a device manufactured by google in the first place, but I'll admit good options outside of that are slim.
