I am so sorry to hear about the PeerTube SNAFU, Gabriel. I have PTSD from past data losses so completely empathize. I applaud you on your resilient and resourceful response to this latest Stoic challenge!
Sometimes disasters, however disheartening at the time, lead to improvements that would not have occurred otherwise. Keep everything in perspective and keep on trucking. Looking forward to the improvements.
I'm so sorry that happened, Gabe. You're keeping a great attitude about it. But I hate it when things like that happen.
When you say, "If you’ve got a show/podcast and want to pick my brain, now is definitely a good time if you’re fine with recording on a Saturday." Do you mean if someone (like me) wants to interview you? I had been thinking of that at the beginning of the year, but then you were indicating that you were feeling overwhelmed, so I didn't bring it up.
My thought had been applying my caret system to specific things that you'd like to do in your neck of the woods. Something that would apply the ideas in How to Dismantle and shift them into the practical details of How to Build a Commonwealth.
I also have an interview on Jerm Warfare Friday Feb 13th! And it's making me a little nervous about making sure I have all my technical ducks in a row. Not that I think of you as my guinea pig, of course ... you're much cuter!
Yes that is what I meant! I'm thinking that doing some chats with others will be a helpful "easy win" that keeps me focused on the fight and learning from people. I would definitely be down for it!
Very cool to hear you'll be on Jerm Warfare, I used to be a regular listener!
Could I snag that first Saturday, Feb 7th, of your post-digital-apocalypse invitation? I hope to make it an energizing beginning, and hopeful for this next phase.
This is the list I made a year ago, when Kathleen invited stackers to do a State of the Union. It has different goals that people might want to accomplish with their caret systems in their neighborhood: https://thirdparadigm.substack.com/p/state-of-disunion-2030. You might have some of those goals or others for things you'd like to see in your hamlet (which I'm now thinking of as around 2000 people). What I'd like to do is brainstorm how the tools and rules of the caret system could make that happen. Would you be game for that?
That date would put it in advance of my Jerm interview but don't feel obligated--I'm sure I can figure out the details or even get some advice from you on the side. But I've been thinking that you're the perfect person for me to start with on what I hope will be a series. You're thoughtful about the bigger picture and you sweat the details--an excellent combination. So whether this Saturday works or not, I'd love to take one of your Saturdays.
This is genuinely tough, but the backup overwrite issue is such a critical insight. The irony that doing incremental work actually created the vulnerability because it kept overwriting good backups is pretty brutal. I ran into smething similar migrating servers once where the rollback window got overwritten by partial states. Honestly the silver lining is havng all the video files intact, which is the hardest part to recreate.
I’m so happy to see your weight loss journey document— I’d like to share it with some of my patients. Unfortunately we have the deceptively easy age of glp-1 meds right now— for many folks that ain’t gonna cut it, and I worry about the lack of long-term safety data for them.

Thank you Margaret Anna Alice 🤗 it means a great deal!
Thank you for your contributions in this critical areas! You are an inspiration to me.
When we get knocked down, we get up, reorient, and continue.

I second that comment.

Works for me!
And thanks a ton, I'll be looking forward to it!
Keep up what you are doing! You are unique and are making wonderful contributions to every battle you join!
So bad... but hold on, we're all here with you !
